Mridusmita Das is one of the eminent Indian authors. She has been publishing her poems and write ups in newspapers and magazines since childhood.  ‘A WIDOW Rebirth From Her Ashes’ , which is my memoir, is her debut book brought her in prominence and many a reader began to lavish their love and admiration on her.

She is a prominent speaker. She has been part of Lekhak Manch in the World Book Fair,2024.She also spoke on Akashvani- All India Radio Talk Show for North East on the eve of World’s Women Day 2024. During her recent interview with Prof Shiv Sethi, the author shares her literary journey. Here are the excerpts.

1.     What sets you apart as an author?
Words, for me, are not only a form of communication but are emotions felt from the heart. My pen and notebook are my best friends.
After my husband’s death in Corona in the year 2021 when I was left all alone, my sole companion emerged to be my writing. The therapeutic writing helped me regain my composure.
After a dark period of mental, emotional and physical breakdown of more than 2 years I finally came to terms with my reality and published my debut book.

2.       Tell us about Your Books.
‘A WIDOW Rebirth From Her Ashes’ , which is my memoir, is my debut book.
The book depicts my journey of Self-Discovery where even after being lost in despair, resilience helped me to see light again.
The second venture is a series called ‘Sparrows of Michigan’ which is a fun adventurous read.
Both books in the series  ‘Amazing Adventures of Joey, Juju & Jubi’ and  ‘Florida Adventures of Joey, Juju & Jubi’  show the value of ‘Life’ God has bestowed upon us.
My books in collaboration with Super7 include two bestsellers A QUOTE A DAY MIRACLE EVERYDAY and LOVE CONNECTION.

3.      Why do you bring the essence of Assam in your writing?
Having been born in the lush green valleys of Assam, I feel writing came naturally to me.
Assamese culture gives utmost importance to literature.
I was fortunate to have the ambience to enliven my dormant gene of being a writer ever since my childhood.
A short poem in my mother tongue Assamese “POKHILA” (translated BUTTERFLY) transformed me from a shy introvert kid to a poetess. The silent kid in me was mesmerized by the loud echo of recognition that the poem being published in the weekly newspaper ‘Sadin’ brought along.
The lullaby of the rain drops on the tin roofs of the Assam Type houses brings me many new ideas. The clear blue skies make me  feel limitless. The mighty Brahmaputra gives me the immense strength to get up every time I fall.

Kohua-Kopou
flowers, fireflies in the dark forests and the virgin picnic spots which are still untouched bring out the best version in me.

4.      Why is it important for you to keep the inner child alive in you?
We may face the worst – broken-trust, failed-relationship, health or financial loss – the list is endless.
A child is unbiased , self- loving ,says NO, enjoys the present moment, loves simple toys, hugs the stray dog……
The innocence and ease with which a child approaches any life situation in an unadulterated and compassionate way gives LIFE its true meaning.

5. How do you give back to society as an author?
Through my writing, I instill hope, self-love, positivity and a strong urge in my readers  to find one’s true-identity.
