Moscow Detains Suspect In General Kirillov’s Killing, Gets 3 month Pre-Trial Detention

A Moscow court has ordered the detention of a suspect involved in the assassination of General Igor Kirillov, a prominent Russian military leader, who was killed by a bomb in Moscow. The court, in a ruling made Thursday, decided that the suspect, a native of Uzbekistan, would remain in pre-trial detention for two months. The suspect is charged with terrorism leading to death, according to a court notice posted on Telegram.

General Kirillov, the chief of Russia’s Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Protection Troops, was killed in a targeted bombing that authorities allege was orchestrated by Ukraine’s SBU security service. The Russian authorities have claimed that the detained individual confessed to planting and detonating the explosive device that led to the general’s death.

This arrest comes amid heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with the ongoing war fueling accusations of targeted assassinations. The incident marks a significant development in the ongoing conflict, with both sides trading allegations over the involvement in such high-profile attacks. The case will now proceed through the Russian judicial system, with further investigations anticipated.
