Global Leaders Gather in Italy for G7 Summit Hosted by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed a host of global leaders including UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, among others, for the 50th Summit of the Group of Seven (G7) held on June 13 and 14.

PM Meloni also received Japanese PM Fumio Kishida and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who arrived for the landmark G7 Summit in Italy. The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, was also greeted by the Italian Prime Minister upon his arrival in Italy to attend the Summit.

Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made his first foreign trip after assuming office for the third consecutive term, heading to Italy to join the G7 Summit. India’s participation as an Outreach Country marked its 11th engagement with the G7, with PM Modi’s fifth consecutive participation.

During the Summit, PM Modi will be engaged in bilateral meetings and discussions with G7 leaders, Outreach nations, and international organizations. He is expected to hold a crucial bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to review the extensive spectrum of bilateral relations.

The visit holds significance as PM Modi’s debut overseas journey in his third term, affirming India’s active engagement on the global stage and reinforcing ties with key nations like Italy, a significant trading partner with bilateral trade at USD 15 billion.
