Israeli Embassy Encourages Citizens to Visit Indian Beaches Following Maldives Entry Ban

In response to the Maldives’ ban for individuals holding Israeli passports from entering the country, the Israel Embassy in India has extended an invitation to Israeli citizens to visit India and explore its picturesque beaches. Emphasizing the warm welcome and hospitality extended to Israeli tourists in India, the embassy recommended several beautiful destinations.

The Israel Embassy in India shared this invitation on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Since the Maldives is no longer welcoming Israelis, here are some beautiful and amazing Indian beaches where Israeli tourists are warmly welcomed and treated with utmost hospitality. Check out these recommendations from @IsraelinIndia, based on the places visited by our diplomats.”

The embassy suggested various Indian beach destinations, including Goa, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Kerala, accompanied by enticing pictures of these locations.

Israeli Consul General in Mumbai, Kobbi Shoshani, echoed this sentiment by responding to a January post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where PM Modi praised the natural beauty of Lakshadweep. Shoshani remarked, “Thanks to the Maldives Government’s decision, Israelis can now explore the beautiful beaches of #Lakshadweep.”

The Maldives government announced its decision to ban Israeli passport holders on Sunday, with the announcement made by Maldives Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihsaan, during a news conference at the President’s Office. The decision is part of a broader effort that includes amending necessary laws and establishing a Cabinet subcommittee to oversee these changes.

The Maldives’ decision comes amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, which began on October 7 when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel. In response, Israel has vowed to dismantle Hamas. The Maldives government has also expressed support for Palestinians, with President Mohamed Muizzu appointing a special envoy to assess Palestinian needs and initiating a fundraising campaign to aid Palestinians, coordinated with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.

The conflict has drawn international attention, with US President Joe Biden announcing that Israel has proposed a “comprehensive new proposal” for a ceasefire with Hamas, mediated by Qatar. This proposal includes a six-week ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the exchange of hostages and prisoners.

As tensions continue, the Israel Embassy in India’s call for its citizens to explore Indian beaches serves as a reminder of the broader geopolitical dynamics affecting travel and tourism in the region.
