EAM Jaishankar Hails Indian Delegation’s Visit To Vatican

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar expressed his happiness over an Indian delegation’s visit to Vatican City to witness the ordination of Archbishop George Koovakad as Cardinal by Pope Francis.

In a post on X, Jaishankar wrote, “Delighted that the Indian delegation led by Minister George Kurian could visit the Vatican on this auspicious occasion.”

A Matter of National Pride

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office also shared a statement, calling the ordination of Cardinal George Koovakad a matter of immense pride for India. The PMO said, “The Government of India sent a delegation led by Union Minister Shri George Kurian to witness this ceremony. Prior to the event, the delegation also met with His Holiness Pope Francis.”

George Kurian’s Reflections on Religious Inclusivity

Union Minister for Minority Affairs and Fisheries, George Kurian, who led the delegation, emphasized the significance of the occasion. He highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s vision for equal rights and opportunities for all religions, stating:

“PM Narendra Modi’s vision of equal rights and opportunities for all religions has made India the safest country for minorities. Honored to lead the official delegation to Vatican for the ordination of Cardinal George J. Koovakad, reflecting Modi Ji’s love for Kerala and the Christian community.”

India’s Representation at Vatican City

This high-level delegation underscores India’s respect for diversity and its commitment to fostering interfaith harmony. Former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar noted that the visit reflects India’s proactive approach to celebrating its citizens’ achievements on the global stage.
