‘Dog – A Man’s Best Friend’ Proved True: Golden Retriever Saves US Man’s Life Who Plunged 20 Feet

In a remarkable act of heroism, a Golden Retriever in Pennsylvania has been celebrated for saving its owner who fell 20 feet down a hillside and sustained a severe hip injury. The incident occurred in the Pittsburgh area last week. The man, unable to move due to his injury, was aided by his loyal canine companion, who quickly sought help.

According to Ross West View EMSA, the dog ran to the neighbours and alerted them that assistance was needed. The neighbours promptly contacted emergency services. The first responders, from the Ross/West View EMSA, faced a challenging rescue operation, as the man was found over a hillside with significant trauma.

The EMSA’s Facebook post detailed the rescue, noting that additional resources were required to safely extract the patient. A rope system and mechanical advantage were used to bring the man to safety. He was stabilized and transported to a local trauma centre for further care.

Ross West View EMSA praised the collaborative effort of the first responders and local fire departments. They also expressed special appreciation for the dog, who stayed by the man’s side throughout the rescue and was rewarded with treats and a big bowl of water.

The post on Facebook highlighted the public’s admiration for the Golden Retriever. Many users commented on the heroic act, with one saying, “And of course he was a Golden Retriever,” accompanied by heart emojis. Another remarked, “Doggie deserves a very big steak!!!” and others expressed their gratitude with messages like, “The hero is the wonderful dog!” and “Thank you and more treats for this terrific dog!”

Ross West View EMSA serves over 54,000 people across a 25-square-mile area in the greater Pittsburgh region.
