India has logged 66,23,815 coronavirus cases so far with 74,442 new infections. As many as 903 deaths in the last 24 hours have pushed the total death count to 1,02,685. About 76,737 patients have recovered from the infection in the country in the last 24 hours. With 55,86,703 people in the country having recovered since the beginning of the pandemic, the overall recovery rate is 84.3%. India is the second worst-hit country in the world by the pandemic after the United States.
Maharashtra, India’s worst Covid-19-affected state, added 12,548 new cases, with the total number of infected people reaching 14.43 lakh. Over 4 lakh restaurants, bars, and hotels in Maharashtra reopened on Monday after a gap of six months as part of Unlock-5. Nashik district added 907 Covid-19 cases to its tally on Monday, even as 14 people succumbed to the infection and 1,101 were discharged post recovery. The caseload in the district is 81,023, including 1,451 deaths, while the total number of people who have recovered stood at 70,272.
Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar registered 186 new Covid-19 patients that pushed its infection tally to 13,916 on Monday. The number of active cases rose to 1,345 from 1,333 in the last 24 hours as 173 more patients got discharged, according to data released by the Uttar Pradesh Health Department. As per official figures of October 3, the recovery rate of patients rose to 89.93% from 89.88%, while the mortality rate stood at 0.40%. There were 45,024 active cases across Uttar Pradesh on Monday.
Jammu and Kashmir recorded 632 fresh cases and 10 more fatalities in a day which took the caseload to 79,738 and death toll to 1,252. 346 new cases were reported from Jammu region and 286 from the Kashmir Valley. Jammu district reported the highest number of 173 new cases, followed by 119 in Srinagar district.
The coronavirus tally in Gujarat rose to 1,44,027 with the addition of 1,327 new cases on Monday. The death count increased to 3,512 with 13 more patients succumbed to the viral infection. At the same time, 1,405 Covid-19 patients were discharged, taking the number of recovered cases to 1,23,770. The state has achieved a recovery rate of 85.94%. A total of 57,513 tests were conducted in the state for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, at a rate of 884.82 tests per day per million population, pushing the number of samples tested so far to 47,02,776.
Madhya Pradesh on Monday reported 1,460 fresh Covid-19 cases, a day after adding 1,720 infections, taking its total tally to 1,37,098. With 29 fatalities, the total count went up to 2,463. Five of the 29 deaths occurred in Indore and Bhopal each, while three patients died each in Jabalpur and Sagar. Two people succumbed to the infection each in Gwalior and Khargone while one death each is reported from Ratlam, Hoshangabad, Damoh, Satna, Khandwa, Chhindwara, Anuppur, Tikamgarh and Panna. A total of 2,046 people was discharged after treatment in the last 24 hours, taking the total count of recoveries to 1,15,878.
Karnataka Education Minister, S. Suresh Kumar, on Monday said he has quarantined himself at home after testing positive for coronavirus.”I will be home quarantined for a few days on the advice of doctors after testing positive for Covid-19.There is no panic as there are no symptoms,” the minister tweeted. He was among those ministers who had attended the recent Assembly session. Many others who had attended the session tested positive including Deputy Chief Minister, Govind Karjol, Senior Congress leaders H.K. Patil and Dinesh Gundu Rao.
At least 111 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Meghalaya on Monday, pushing the tally to 6,820, while one more fatality raised the count in the north-eastern state to 59. East Khasi Hills, of which state capital Shillong is a part, continues to be the worstaffected district with 72 fresh cases. Ri Bhoi accounted for 19 new cases, followed by East Jaintia Hills at 10, East Garo Hills at six and West Garo Hills District at two. One each was recorded in South West Garo Hills and South West Khasi hills. Altogether 98 patients have been cured of the disease on Monday, increasing the total number of recoveries to 4,491. Meghalaya currently has 2,270 active cases.
The national capital recorded 32 Covid-19 fatalities on Monday, as the count climbed to 5,542, while 1,947 fresh cases took the tally over 2.92 lakh. The relatively low number of fresh cases came out of the 35,593 tests conducted on 4October. Thirty-two new fatalities have been recorded, taking the death toll to 5,542. The tally of active cases stood at 23,080 on Monday, the total number of cases has climbed to 2,92,560.
At least 159 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Tripura on Monday, pushing the tally in the state to 27,033. The death count rose to 296 with six more people succumbing to the infection. West Tripura district, of which state capital Agartala is a part, has accounted for 159 of the 296 Covid-19 deaths. Tripura currently has 4,861 active coronavirus cases, while 21,853 people have recovered from the disease and 23 patients have migrated to other states.
Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has decided to keep himself in home quarantine for three days as a precautionary measure against Covid. The Chief Minister will work from home during his quarantine period, he added.
In Bihar, 907 new Covid-19 positive cases have been reported on October 4, taking the total count of active cases to 12,833.
Forty-four new cases of coronavirus were detected in Ladakh, taking the infection tally in the Union Territory to 4,521 on Monday. With 39 more patients cured of the contagion, the number of active cases in the region stands at 1,106–773 in Leh district and 333 in Kargil district. They said 37 persons tested positive for Covid-19 in Leh district and another seven in Kargil district during the past 24 hours. Ladakh had reported 61 Covid-related deaths, while 3,354 patients had recovered from the infection till Sunday evening. The officials said 33 Covid patients were discharged in Leh and six others in Kargil on Sunday.
Jharkhand’s Covid-19 caseload rose to 87,210 as 933 more people tested positive for the infection on Monday.Nine more patients succumbed to the disease, taking the state’s coronavirus death toll to 743.The Covid-19 tally of Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 3,884 on Monday as 16 more people tested positive for the virus.
The Covid-19 tally in Telangana crossed the two lakh-mark with 1,335 new cases,on Monday. The fresh infections took the total count to 2,00,611, while the death toll rose to 1,171 with eight more fatalities. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation accounted for 262 of the 1,335 cases, followed by Rangareddy, 137, MedchalMalkajgiri, 91, Karimnagar, 83 and other districts.
