Following his resignation as Delhi Chief Minister, AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal is set to vacate the official CM residence on Friday. According to party sources, he will be moving to a bungalow at 5, Ferozshah Road, currently assigned to AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) confirmed the relocation, stating, “Arvind Kejriwal will shift to the bungalow allocated to party MP Ashok Mittal at 5, Ferozshah Road.” Notably, Mittal personally offered his residence to Kejriwal.
Earlier, the party mentioned, “Arvind Kejriwal is seeking a property that is dispute-free and suitable for living.” AAP added, “The search for a new house has intensified, with Kejriwal preferring to stay in New Delhi, where he serves as an MLA, to remain connected with the people. Many MLAs, councillors, party workers, and ordinary citizens are offering their homes to the AAP Chief.”
Kejriwal resigned on September 17 to Delhi LG VK Saxena, after which Atishi claimed the right to form a new government following Kejriwal’s release on bail in the excise policy case. He stated that he would consider returning to the post only if he receives a renewed mandate and a “certificate of honesty” from the people of Delhi in the assembly elections, likely to be held in February 2025.
Atishi was sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister on September 22, succeeding Kejriwal. In a heartfelt gesture, she placed an empty chair next to hers, saying, “This chair belongs to Arvind Kejriwal. Today, as I take charge as the CM of Delhi, I feel the same pain in my heart as Bharat ji did. Just as Bharat ji worked while keeping Lord Shri Ram’s sandals, I will serve as CM for the next four months.” She expressed confidence that Kejriwal would return as Delhi’s CM in the upcoming assembly elections.
At 43, Atishi becomes the third woman to hold the position of Chief Minister in Delhi, following Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.
