Israel’s Foreign Minister Eli Katz confirmed Thursday that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was killed in a targeted military operation in Gaza. Sinwar, the mastermind behind the brutal October 7 attacks on Israel, has been identified as a key figure responsible for launching the war in Gaza.

IDF’s Precise Strike Ends Sinwar’s Reign

In a statement, Katz described Sinwar as a “mass murderer” accountable for the atrocities of the October 7 massacre. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) tracked down and eliminated Sinwar in the Tal El Sultan area of southern Gaza. Israeli forces had been conducting operations in Gaza to eliminate high-profile Hamas leaders amid ongoing hostilities.

Hamas Silent on Sinwar’s Death

While Hamas has yet to officially comment on the assassination, sources within the group indicate that Sinwar was likely killed during the Israeli operation. The situation in Gaza remains tense as Hamas faces the loss of one of its most influential leaders.

Who Was Yahya Sinwar?

Sinwar, born in a Gaza refugee camp in 1962, rose to prominence within Hamas due to his role in leading the militant group’s security wing. His focus on eliminating informants and his ruthless tactics made him a central figure in Hamas’ power structure. Sinwar succeeded Ismail Haniyeh as the leader of Hamas after Haniyeh’s death in an explosion in Iran.

The Gaza Conflict Intensifies

As the battle between Israel and Hamas continues, the IDF confirmed the elimination of three more unidentified terrorists in Gaza today. In a separate strike, Israel hit a Gaza school, killing at least 15 people, including five children. The school was reportedly housing Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants, according to the Israeli military.

With the elimination of Sinwar, Israel has dealt a significant blow to Hamas, but the conflict is far from over as both sides brace for further escalation.
