Wheat Procurement in Punjab Mandis nears completion, reaches almost 100% during Rabi Season 2024-25

In a recent update during the ongoing Rabi season 2024-25, the wheat procurement process in Punjab mandis has surged to nearly 100%, with plans underway to expedite further procurement. S. Harchand Singh Barsat, Chairman of the Punjab Mandi Board, conveyed this information during a comprehensive review of the ongoing procurement operations in mandis.

Barsat revealed that Punjab’s mandis have received a staggering 123.81 lakh metric tons of wheat, out of which 123.26 lakh metric tons have already been procured. Furthermore, an impressive Rs 25,387.8 crore has been disbursed to farmers from the allocated cash credit limit of Rs 30,077 crore for the Rabi season 2024-25.
Underlining the meticulous arrangements made by the board to facilitate procurement activities in mandis, Barsat emphasized the paramount importance placed on the convenience of farmers, traders, and laborers. Thanks to these efforts, the wheat procurement process in mandis is proceeding seamlessly, ensuring minimal disruption to farmers.

Barsat also highlighted the diligent efforts of inspection teams deployed by the Punjab Mandi Board to conduct regular oversight in mandis. He reiterated the Punjab government’s unwavering commitment to supporting farmers and advancing their welfare.
Expressing gratitude to various departments of the Punjab government such as Punsup, Markfed, Pungrain, and Warehouses for their cooperation, Barsat attributed the successful completion of the task to divine grace and favorable weather conditions.
In terms of statistics, Barsat provided detailed insights, indicating that 123.81 lakh metric tons of wheat have been received in 1907 designated mandis and 826 temporary procurement centers.

 

Of this, 116.46 lakh metric tons were procured by government agencies and 6.80 lakh metric tons at the private level.

He further disclosed that 74.17 lakh metric tons of wheat have been lifted from mandis thus far. Notably, Sangrur district in Punjab emerged as the frontrunner in wheat arrival and procurement, with 11,98,029 metric tons procured, followed by Patiala with 9,25,382 metric tons and Ferozepur with 8,47,242 metric tons.
