This week on We Women Want we have GEETA RANI VERMA – ADDL CP (TRAFFIC) DELHI POLICE and SUMAN NALWA – DCP & PRO DELHI POLICE.
The two talk about making the capital safe and also about being women in a predominantly male dominated sphere. As Suman Nalwa who has handled training courses as well, points out, during training it is interesting to see the women walk in wearing traditional Indian gear, some with head covered and the next day they are hitting the ground running in track pants and then leave in their uniforms. As both Geeta and Suman said it is very empowering both in the household and also within the community for women to don the uniform.
Geeta Verma spoke about how some policing roles are best suited for women such as those dealing with rape cases, crimes against minors and marital discord. The duo spoke about the various apps and self-help programs such as self-defence that the Delhi Police has come up with to make women feel more safe and secure.
