On August 10, Shah Rukh made history by becoming the first Indian personality to receive the prestigious lifetime achievement award, known as the Pardo alla Carriera or Career Leopard, at the festival’s 77th edition. The “Jawan” actor’s presence left the audience in awe as he charmed them with his dapper look, sporting a sleek black blazer and matching trousers, with his long hair adding to his style.
One of the festival’s main highlights was Shah Rukh’s speech, which drew continuous cheers from the crowd. The Instagram account of the Locarno Film Festival has been flooded with pictures and videos of SRK from the event. According to Variety, Shah Rukh began by expressing his gratitude for the warm reception, humorously referencing his famous open-armed pose, saying, “Thank you all for welcoming me with such wide arms – wider than the ones I do on screen.”
The actor went on to share his thoughts on the significance of cinema, stating, “I truly believe cinema has been the most profound and influential artistic medium of our age. I’ve had the privilege of being part of this for many years, and this journey has taught me a few lessons.” Reflecting on his 35-year career, Shah Rukh highlighted the diverse roles he has portrayed, saying, “I’ve been a villain, I’ve been a champ, I’ve been a superhero, I’ve been a zero, I’ve been a rejected fan, and I’ve been a very, very resilient lover.”
As part of the tribute to Shah Rukh Khan, the festival also screened his 2002 hit film Devdas, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The event, along with Shah Rukh’s performance and speech, created a lasting impact on the global audience, further solidifying his status as one of the most beloved stars in cinema.
