The HRCBM condemned the police and military for failing to prevent the attack, stating that their negligence made them complicit in the crime. “This act of mob lynching violates basic human rights,” the organization said in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter).
The HRCBM expressed outrage over the absence of justice, as the perpetrators of the crime remain unpunished. They also criticized segments of the Bangladeshi media for downplaying the incident, with some claiming the lynching never happened. The organization voiced concern for the safety of Utsav’s family, fearing they could face intimidation or forced disappearance.
The incident has raised serious questions about justice and human rights in Bangladesh. The HRCBM asked, “Will there be justice in Bangladesh? Will people stand up against such dark forces? Will the international community continue to be silent?”
The organization also highlighted the ongoing violence against minority communities in Bangladesh, calling for global attention and action to address these human rights violations.
Muhammad Yunus, the interim government’s chief adviser, downplayed concerns of communal violence, arguing that the attacks on Hindus are exaggerated and more political than religious. He suggested that many Hindus were perceived as supporters of the recently ousted Awami League government, led by Sheikh Hasina, and that the violence was a political fallout rather than religious persecution. This stance has sparked debate over the true nature of the attacks.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern about the safety of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. In his Independence Day speech, Modi acknowledged the troubling situation and called for improvements. This was the second time in a week that Modi addressed the issue, as tensions rise following the establishment of the interim government in Bangladesh.
“As a neighboring country, we share the concerns over what is happening in Bangladesh. I hope the situation improves soon,” Modi stated.
Advocacy groups like the HRCBM are urging the global community to intervene as violence against minorities in Bangladesh continues. The future remains uncertain, but the demand for justice and protection of vulnerable communities is growing stronger.
