A musical programme was organised here to mark the 19th death anniversary of Ramjilal Swarnkar, founder of Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Science and Technology (MGUMST). Renowned Indian classical vocalist Padmabhushan Ajoy Chakrabarty enthralled the audience by his glorious performance during the concert.
On this occasion, in his welcome address, Emeritus Chairperson Professor Dr ML Swarnkar said that efforts are made to promote and enrich art and culture like this. Several noted personalities of the musical and theatre world have so far given their presentations. The programme of Pt. Chakrabarty is also part of this effort to establish a bond between society and Indian traditional music, he said.
Dr Vikas Swarnkar, who is Chairperson of the university, Dr Shobhit Swarnkar, Meena Swarnkar, RR Soni, Mrs Neelam Swarnkar and other members of the Swarnkar family paid floral tributes by garlanding the portrait of late Ramjilal Swarnkar.
The musical concert during which Ajoy Chakrabarty took the stage held the audience spellbound. Chakrabarty later said that only Indian spiritualism and music have the power to reduce tension and depression. He further pointed out that the music which is composed of 12 swaras purifies the soul and kindles the feeling of love and dedication. The Indian music should be called Rag Sangeet instead of classical music as it is a swara tradition that has originated from the Samveda, he added.
