Since midnight, Haryana has been enveloped in dense fog, impacting GT Road severely between Ambala and the Sonipat-Delhi border. The Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for the GT Belt districts from 7:30 to 10:30 due to the persistent fog, limiting visibility to merely 10 meters. This led to significant challenges for drivers, causing vehicles to move at a snail’s pace across the affected areas.

During the severe winter spell, the Meteorological Department in Haryana issued orange and yellow alerts concerning fog conditions. In an unprecedented move for the season, the Department released four nowcasts specifically addressing fog. These updates were issued at 11:57 PM, 2:56 AM, 5:47 AM, and 7:33 AM. Notably, the Department singled out 31 cities in Haryana for special alert due to the potential of dense fog formation in these areas.

These include Sohna, Gurugram, Bahadurgarh, Berikhas, Sampla, Rohtak, Faridabad, Kharkhoda, Sonipat, Ganaur, Samalkha, Bapauli, Gharaunda, Karnal, Indri, Radaur, Gohana, Israna, Safidon, Panipat, Assandh, Kaithal, Nilikhori, Thanesar, Guhla. , Pehowa, Shahabad, Ambala, Barada, Jagadhri, Narayangarh.

Apart from this, Tawadu, Mahendragarh, Kanina, Bhadra, Loharu, Charkhi Dadri, Bhiwani, Tosham, Rewari, Pataudi, Kosli, Matanhel, Jhajjar, Bahadrugarh, Berikhas, Sampla, Rohtak, Siwani, Bawani Khera, Hansi, Hisar, Adampur, Narnaund, Nathusar Chopta, Ellenabad, Fatehabad, Rania, Faridabad, Radaur, Meham, Gohana, Julana, Safidon, Jind, Assandh, Kaithal, Narwana, Nassarsa, Tohana, Kalayat, Rataniya, Dabwali, Guhla, Ambala, Barada, Jagadhri, Chhachhrauli, Narayangarh. There is a possibility of dense fog in Panchkula. The department has issued a yellow alert for this.

Orange alert of dense to very dense fog will continue till December 27. Weather experts say that people traveling by vehicles in these districts need to be more alert in the morning and evening. Today it will be cloudy in some districts, and the Meteorological Department has also predicted drizzle. After this, once again there are chances of rain from 26th December i.e. from today.

As smog increases in Haryana, the number of road accidents also increases. According to an estimate, about 35% of the accidents occur due to trucks, tempos and tractors on the highways in the state. The most worrying thing is that 37% people die in accidents. Cars, jeeps and taxis cause 31% road accidents, out of which 35% are deaths. Apart from this, 16% accidents and 11.80% deaths occur due to two wheelers, 5.25% accidents and 3.90% deaths occur due to auto rickshaws.

In Haryana, maximum number of accidents occur on National Highways at 31.78 percent, while 25.69 percent accidents occur on State Highways and 2.19 percent on Express Highways. 40.34 percent accidents occur on other roads. 24.77 percent more accidents occur from 6 am to 12 am, 29.82 percent from 12 noon to 6 pm, 29.50 percent from 6 pm to 12 midnight and 15.08 percent from 12 midnight to 6 am.
