After a stellar performance in the World Cup 2023, where Virat Kohli claimed Player of the Tournament and emerged as the leading run-scorer, India’s batting maestro Virat Kohli has made significant strides in the ODI rankings, edging closer to the number one spot. In the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI rankings, Kohli has narrowed the gap with compatriot Shubman Gill, who currently holds the top position in the batting ODI chart.
Kohli’s remarkable tally of 765 runs in 11 innings during the World Cup has propelled him to the third spot in the rankings, just 35 points behind Gill. Gill boasts 826 points, followed closely by Pakistan’s Babar Azam with 824 points, and Kohli now holds a total of 791 points. India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, who showcased exceptional stroke play in the World Cup, has also moved up one spot to claim the fourth position with 769 rating points. This remarkable feat means India now boasts three batters in the top four of the ODI rankings.
During the World Cup, Kohli shattered several records, including surpassing legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar for the most ODI centuries. Meanwhile, Rohit amassed 597 runs, making him one of the two leading run-scorers in the tournament alongside Kohli.
In the ODI batter rankings, South Africa’s Quinton de Kock dropped two spots to fifth, and New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell climbed five spots to sixth, thanks to his impressive 552 runs at the World Cup.
Australia’s Travis Head witnessed a significant rise, jumping 28 places to 15th overall after his magnificent century and Player of the Match performance in the World Cup final against India.
