Authorities Respond Swiftly

According to sources, the escape took place around 6:30 PM on Tuesday. The video shows two guards, one in uniform, attempting to restrain the minors using a stick and the door handle, but they were overpowered. Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary confirmed the incident, stating, “Approximately 21 children caused a disturbance and broke out from the facility. Upon receiving information, authorities, including the Sub-Divisional Officer and police, were immediately alerted.”

A police investigation was launched to track down the escapees. By Wednesday, four minors had been located and brought back to the juvenile home in West Singhbhum district. Chaibasa Police official Bahman Tuti assured that efforts were ongoing to trace the remaining runaways.

Opposition Slams Government, Demands Investigation

The escape has sparked a political row, with opposition leader and former Jharkhand CM Babulal Marandi criticizing the state government. He called the incident a “serious lapse in the security system” and accused the authorities of treating juvenile homes as mere formalities.

Marandi demanded a high-level investigation and strict action, posting on social media, “All the runaway juveniles should be brought back as soon as possible and proper counseling should be arranged for them, otherwise they may become a threat to society. Why did these children run away and due to whose negligence? A high-level investigation must be conducted and action must be taken.”

With a probe underway, authorities are working to bring back the remaining escapees while addressing concerns over security lapses at the facility.
