In a startling incident, a man declared dead by doctors in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu stunned everyone by coming back to life while being taken for cremation. The state government has since suspended three doctors for severe negligence and launched an investigation into the matter.
The man, identified as Rohitash, a mentally challenged and specially-abled resident of the Maa Sewa Sansthan NGO, was taken to BDK Hospital on Thursday morning after being found unconscious. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, but doctors pronounced him “brought dead” and moved him to the mortuary for an autopsy.
Reports indicate that the doctors, deeming the body unclaimed, did not perform a physical post-mortem. Instead, they prepared a report and handed it to the police. Rohitash’s body was kept in a freezer in the mortuary for about four hours before being taken to the crematorium.
However, on the way to the cremation, Rohitash suddenly regained consciousness, shocking everyone present.
Upon learning about the incident, government officials, including the district’s Revenue Officer and local police, launched an investigation. CCTV footage was reviewed to understand the sequence of events.
District Collector Ramavatar Meena labeled the case a grave act of negligence and forwarded a report to the Rajasthan Health Department. This led to the suspension of Chief Medical Officer Sandeep Pachar and his colleagues, Yogesh Jakhar and Navneet Meel. During their suspension, Pachar has been transferred to Jaisalmer, Jakhar to Barmer, and Meel to Jalore.
A departmental inquiry has also been initiated to investigate the conduct of the three doctors.
