A bizarre sight of a human hand dangling out of a car boot on the road between Vashi and Sanpada railway stations sparked panic in Navi Mumbai on Monday evening. The video, recorded by a vigilant local around 6:45 pm, quickly went viral and made its way to the Navi Mumbai police, prompting an immediate investigation.
Reacting swiftly, the police and crime branch teams launched a search for the suspicious vehicle. By around 8:30 pm, the car was traced to Ghatkopar, where officers discovered that the entire act was part of a staged social media reel.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), Ajay Landge, “The boys were from Mumbai and had come to Navi Mumbai for a marriage when they made the reel. We have apprehended them and have verified the facts and there is no suspicious element in this.”

The video was reportedly created as part of a promotional campaign for a laptop deal. In the footage, a hand is seen hanging from the car’s boot. A biker halts the vehicle and demands the boot be opened. At that moment, the person inside emerges and says, “Got afraid? But am not dead. Am alive. However, listen to the amazing ‘offer’ that we have on laptop.”
The police have reviewed all related video clips and confirmed that the content was purely promotional. At the time of writing, no FIR had been filed, though officials continued questioning the youths involved.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about the boundaries of content creation and the public alarm such stunts can trigger.
