How A Coffee Review Landed This Woman A Job At Sleepy Owl

When a woman named Prasiddh decided to write a product review for Sleepy Owl coffee on Amazon, she never imagined it would lead to a job offer from the company. Her detailed and humorous account of her romantic experiences involving the coffee caught the eye of co-founder Ashwajeet Singh.

Initially, Prasiddh purchased two jars of coffee to impress a date, hoping to set a cozy mood at home. “I am sure I was one fluttery-eyed ‘Do you want coffee?’ away from an ‘I love you; and confidently skipped the talking-stage ‘Add To Cart’ and went in straight with the committed ‘Shop Now’ button,” she recalled. However, when the date canceled, she was left with extra coffee and a longing for companionship.

Struggling to make coffee herself, she turned to a dating app to find someone who could help and potentially become a partner. “I was confident if I tastefully begged for help, I would land up with a match made in the caffeinated heaven. I changed my first image on the apps and put a picture of me and my coffee jars asking, ‘Looking for someone to make frothy coffees with’. Sleepy Owl played the perfect wing-owl for me,” she wrote.

Eventually, Prasiddh found someone and things initially went well. But after spending a night together, she woke up to find the person gone and her beloved coffee jars missing. Despite being heartbroken, she still enjoyed the coffee and gave it a 5-star rating.

At the end of her review, she mentioned, “I am a copywriter and love to weave my real life experiences into consumable content nuggets. And if you’ve made it to the end, stay tuned for my new-found love of reviewing all my Amazon buys as if I’m writing a fan-fiction.”

Impressed by her writing, Singh decided to offer her a job at Sleepy Owl Coffee. “Dear Prasiddh, Whoever you are, wherever you are, pls get in touch with me. Sleepy Owl Coffee needs to hire you. What a review — I couldn’t stop laughing the entire time. This is copywriting at its best,” the co-founder said in a LinkedIn post.
