Reacting to the Nuh incident that spiralled on 31 July, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said that there were masterminds behind the violence, echoing Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s statements that the incident was “pre-planned”. Home Minister Vij said that the state government officials have been ordered to investigate the entire matter and whoever is guilty will not be spared.
Anil Vij said with no uncertainty that the way violence took place by collecting stones and firing bullets, it did not happen suddenly. “This was a mastermind’s plan to disturb the peace of the state and the country.”
He added that an inquiry has been set up in this matter and “whoever is found guilty will not be spared.” According to both the CM and the Home Minister, 20 companies of central security forces were called into the state while the Air Force has also kept on standby, in case the need for airlifts arises.
He also advised political parties: “This is not the time to do politics, it is the time to restore peace and the political parties who are speaking should restore peace with their own resources.”
The Home Minister also appealed to all political parties to maintain peace. Several prohibitory orders have been put in place across Haryana. Internet services have been shut down in five Haryana districts and three areas in Gurugram while a curfew has been imposed in Nuh. Section 144 has been imposed in both Gurugram—which has been placed on high alert—and Faridabad; security forces have been sent to other parts of Haryana as well.
Home Minister Vij further said that adequate security forces have been deployed to deal with any situations that may arise. “On Monday, forces were deployed to districts adjacent to Nuh while several other companies were sent across the state on Tuesday. “Two home guard jawans have been martyred, several police personnel have been injured and one unknown person lost their life,” Vij said. The Home Minister said that three of the policemen who were been shot are on ventilators and are undergoing treatment.
