In Palghar district, Maharashtra, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has taken action against corruption by apprehending a village development officer and a peon involved in a bribery case amounting to Rs 5,000. Deputy Superintendent of Police at ACB – Palghar, Dayanand Gawade, provided details of the incident, explaining that Village Development Officer Sunil Patil (53), hailing from Talasari taluka, had allegedly demanded the sum of Rs 5,000 from a plumbing contractor.
The contractor had already received payment for work completed in the village, which was overseen by Patil. However, Patil insisted on this additional amount, asserting that he had expedited the bill processing, as reported by the official. Following a complaint from the contractor, the ACB took swift action, setting up a sting operation that led to the arrest of peon Amit Dileep Dubla (35). Dubla was caught accepting the bribe on behalf of Patil during the operation conducted on Thursday.
Both individuals, Patil and Dubla, have been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and a case has been registered at the Gholwad police station, stated the official.
