Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed his sorrow over the deaths that occurred in an accident on Wednesday morning in Bharatpur, his home state of Rajasthan. On the Jaipur-Agra highway in Bharatpur, a trailer plowed into a stopped bus at a high rate of speed, leaving 12 people dead and another 11 seriously hurt, according to the police. Dhankhar wrote, “Deeply saddened by the news of the tragic road accident in Bharatpur, Rajasthan,” on his official social media account, “X.” I offer my condolences to the families of the deceased and hope that everyone who was hurt will heal quickly. The bus was traveling from Bhavnagar, Gujarat, to Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.
The injured are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bharatpur, the police said, adding that the bodies of the deceased were shifted to a mortuary.
President Droupadi Murmu, too, expressed grief over the incident.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the devotees who perished in an accident in Bharatpur. I express my condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” President Murmu posted on X.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, too, condoled the loss of lives in the accident while announcing an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of the dead and Rs 50,000 each for the injured.
