BJP MP Varun Gandhi has frequently made headlines over the past few years because of his outspoken nature. Although he refrains from directly questioning his own party and the government, he doesn’t hesitate to criticise his party’s government’s policies, especially when they pertain to the common people.
Because of his vocal stance, his opponents label him as a rebel. However, it’s not just the government’s policies that Varun opposes. He also critiques the opposition, particularly the Congress, on a range of issues.
He once confronted Rahul Gandhi for a statement made abroad and defended his own government’s stance. Currently, Varun Gandhi is back in the limelight due to an issue related to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, named after his father Sanjay Gandhi, in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh.
The state government recently suspended the hospital’s licence and subsequently sealed it. This decision led to numerous job losses. Varun Gandhi swiftly stepped in to challenge the state government’s decision, cautioning that the collective resentment of thousands could jeopardise the party’s standing. Varun persistently communicated with the government and remained proactive on the issue.
The matter escalated to the High Court, where the suspension of the hospital’s licence was put on hold. While expressing gratitude to the persistent hospital staff, Varun emphasised the importance of the hospital continuing to serve the public for years to come.
Even though Varun is predominantly active in his parliamentary constituency of Pilibhit, there is ongoing speculation that he might run for office in Amethi in the future. Rahul Gandhi had previously represented Amethi twice as an MP.
In the most recent elections, Smriti Irani unseated him, wresting control of the constituency from the Gandhi family. Varun remains a loyal member of the BJP. However, speculations about his future decisions within the party are a constant topic of discussion.
