Varun Gandhi has never washed dirty linen in public and personified grace and dignity on several occasions.
The way he has politely turned down the offer to contest elections against sister Priyanka Gandhi from Rae Bareli, shows his magnanimity and generosity. Despite being aware that this decision will significantly impact his political future and goals and there is all possibility of the ruling BJP would lose trust in Varun Gandhi, he stood firm by his decision.
It can be ascertained that, Priyanka Gandhi must have acknowledged Varun’s Momentous determination and expressed gratitude as there is a steady stream of reports regarding their communication and dialogue. Priyanka Gandhi could have seized this opportunity and created a tremendous stir, giving UP election a spark by inviting Varun Gandhi to contest elections form Rae Bareli. This move could have brought Uttar Pradesh in lime light and Congress would have got a face and a facelift.
The current trajectory of the general elections could have reinforced the Congress party. The Gandhi family should use its discretion and taken a decision, rather than following advises from the people who oppose Varun Gandhi. This is a moment of opportunity that they cannot afford to miss. Varun Gandhi has consistently maintained respectful relationships since entering politics, refraining from criticizing his family or the Congress party.
During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, as news circulated about Rahul Gandhi’s defeat in Amethi, Varun Gandhi sensibly issued a supportive statement. However, when journalists questioned Rahul about Varun’s statement, he responded casually. Despite this, Varun did not react. Given the party’s struggles over the past decade, the Gandhi family needs allies focused on strengthening the party rather than their own interests.
Currently, sycophants surrounding the Gandhi family are detrimental to the party’s welfare. Congress is mistaken in believing that the upcoming election will yield positive outcomes; realistically, they may only reach around 70 to 75 seats, with the BJP making significant gains by attracting Congress candidates. Integrating Varun into the party would offer more benefits than drawbacks at this juncture. With the nomination deadline approaching, the Gandhi family must contemplate this decision with generosity and foresight.
