New Delhi [India], October 19 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, on Sunday to unveil a series of significant infrastructure projects. The highlight of his visit will be airport development projects worth over Rs 6,100 crore, aimed at boosting connectivity and modernizing aviation facilities across India.
At approximately 4:15 PM, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the expansion of the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, with plans for a new terminal and expanded runway at a cost of around Rs 2,870 crore. Additional major airport projects include the New Civil Enclave at Agra Airport (Rs 570 crore), Darbhanga Airport (Rs 910 crore), and Bagdogra Airport (Rs 1,550 crore).
He will also inaugurate new terminal buildings at Rewa, Maa Mahamaya, Ambikapur, and Sarsawa Airports, increasing the combined annual passenger handling capacity of these facilities to over 2.3 crore.
The visit will begin with the inauguration of the RJ Sankara Eye Hospital at 2 PM. The hospital will offer state-of-the-art treatments for various eye conditions and provide comprehensive consultations to patients. PM Modi will address the attendees on the occasion, highlighting the importance of accessible healthcare in his constituency.
As part of the Khelo India scheme and the Smart City Mission, PM Modi will also inaugurate Phases 2 and 3 of the Varanasi Sports Complex Redevelopment project, valued at over Rs 210 crore. The complex will feature a National Centre of Excellence, sports science centers, practice fields, indoor shooting ranges, and combat sports arenas, designed to support top-tier athletes.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate 100-bed girls’ and boys’ hostels and a public pavilion at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Sports Stadium, Lalpur.
PM Modi will also unveil several tourism development projects in Sarnath, a key Buddhist heritage site. Enhancements include the construction of pedestrian-friendly streets, new sewer systems, organized vending zones, and beautification initiatives aimed at promoting local handicraft vendors.
Other tourism-related projects will include the redevelopment of Banasur Temple, Gurudham Temple, and beautification works at several parks to boost cultural tourism in the region.
This visit underscores PM Modi’s commitment to infrastructure development, connectivity, and sports promotion in Varanasi. The comprehensive package of airport expansions, sports complex upgrades, and tourism initiatives reflects the government’s focus on improving regional facilities while promoting heritage and culture.
