Uttarakhand CM Dhami: "Pehle matdaan phir jalpaan"

Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister of Uttarakhand, urged voters on Friday to cast their ballots in big numbers and select a good administrations. Votings for the Lok Sabha elections are underway.

CM Dhami urged people to prioritize exercising their right to vote saying, “Pehle Matdaan Phir Jalpaan’. Today is the mega festival of democracy. I appeal to everyone to cast their votes and choose a good government. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has seen new heights in the last 10 years and our country has got global recognition. PM Modi wants to create a strong India and a strong Uttarakhand.”

In the meantime, Trivendra Singh Rawat, a former chief minister and BJP contender for the Haridwar seat, went to the DAV School Defence Colony Dehradun voting place with his family to cast their ballot.

The BJP is seeking to win all five seats for a third time, while the Congress is trying to regain lost ground in the state as polls for Uttarakhand’s five Lok Sabha seats begin today.

The BJP and Congress have always engaged in a close race in Uttarakhand. For both parties, showcasing and winning over supporters of their respective national narratives requires the state as a vital theater of operations.

In both the 2014 and 2019 elections, the BJP secured every Lok Sabha seat in Uttarakhand. The BJP won 47 of the 70 assembly seats in the 2022 assembly elections, while the Congress only managed to secure 19 seats. Independents and the BSP each have two seats.

After the first general election, which took place over five months between September 1951 and February 1952, this election, which is scheduled to take place from April 19 to June 1, is expected to be the longest polling process in the nation’s electoral history.

Seven phases were also observed in the 2019 general elections.
In today’s first phase of voting, 102 constituencies spread across 21 states and Union Territories will cast ballots. On June 4, the votes will be tallied.

Constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhatisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry are among those casting ballots in the first phase of the election.
