On Thursday, at a session chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at Lok Bhavan, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet approved eight crucial proposals, ushering in transformative changes across a variety of industries.
An official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office disclosed that among the approved initiatives was the long-awaited Semi-Conductor Policy 2024. This strategic move positions Uttar Pradesh as the fourth state in India to adopt the policy, signaling a significant leap in the semiconductor manufacturing sector. Experts hail this decision as a milestone, with the policy expected to attract massive investments into the state, setting it on the path to becoming a leader in semiconductor manufacturing.
The cabinet’s approval also brought good news for sugarcane farmers, as an increase in sugarcane prices was given the nod. Minister of Sugar Industry and Sugarcane Development, Chaudhary Laxmi Narayan, revealed that State Advised Prices (SAP) for various varieties have been adjusted for the crushing season 2023–24, providing a substantial boost to farmers.
Furthermore, the cabinet granted approval for the establishment of three new universities in the state. Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay announced the green light for JSS University in Noida, Saroj University in Lucknow, and Sharda University in Agra under the private sector.
In a historic nod to the state’s rich history, the cabinet also approved changing the name of Mundera Nagar Panchayat in Gorakhpur to Chauri Chaura, commemorating the centenary year of the Chauri Chaura incident during the independence movement.
Emphasizing the economic significance of these decisions, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna highlighted the changes in the Uttar Pradesh Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Promotion Policy, exempting private MSME units and PLEDGE parks from conversion fees for altering the land use of agricultural land.
The cabinet further solidified its commitment to urban development by exempting Metro Rail, RRTS, and their assets from acquisition under the Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act, 1959.
These decisions mark a momentous stride towards progress and development in Uttar Pradesh, setting the stage for substantial economic growth and enhanced quality of life for its residents.
