In Wisconsin, USA, police fatally shot a student who officials say was armed when he arrived at a local school. The entire district was placed on lockdown late Wednesday morning local time.
Authorities reported that police shot and killed the armed student outside a Wisconsin Middle School following reports of an “active shooter” situation in Mount Horeb on Wednesday local time, as per The New York Times.
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul stated during a press conference that no additional students or police officers were harmed during the incident. “This could have been a far worse tragedy,” Kaul remarked.
The victim’s identity was not disclosed by authorities but was described as a male juvenile who attended a school in the Mount Horeb Area School District, according to The New York Times.
The type of weapon carried by the student remains unknown at this time.
Kaul mentioned that Mount Horeb Police Department officers fired shots at the armed student. It is unclear if the student fired at the officers in return, as reported by The New York Times.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
