Last week, Justin Best, alongside three US teammates, made history at the Paris Olympics 2024 by clinching the first rowing gold medal for the country in the men’s four class since 1960. The US team edged out New Zealand and defending world champion Britain, finishing with a time of 5:49.03.

Best, who balances his athletic pursuits with a career as an investment analyst, wasted no time in updating his LinkedIn profile to reflect his monumental achievement. His bio now proudly includes “Olympic Champion” along with his position as “Junior Analyst at Union Square Advisors.”

A graduate of Drexel University in Pennsylvania, Best has been working at Union Square Advisors in San Francisco since November 2021. The quick update to his LinkedIn was noted by the X account Overheard on Wall Street, which posted a screenshot with the caption, “Bro updated his LinkedIn within 24 hours of winning the Olympic gold.”

Balancing his passion for investment banking with his love for rowing, Best told Business Insider, “I’ve loved the sectors that we cover. Hearing what the big companies are looking for in acquisitions or investments, seeing the metrics within the company and the technology, it’s exciting to me.”

Best maintains a rigorous daily schedule, waking up at 5:30 am for training before commuting via the Bay Area Rapid Transit to his office. He returns to training in the evening and finally heads home by 8:30 pm.

Winning the Olympic gold fulfilled a lifelong dream for the 26-year-old from Pennsylvania. “In high school, I wanted to see how far I could take this – I had in the back of my head the Olympics, and in the back further, I had gold medallist,” he shared with reporters, shedding tears after the victory. “After years and years of trials and tribulations, ups and downs, I can finally say that I’m on the top of the podium.”

Best’s parents saw potential in him for rowing after watching “The Social Network,” noting the athletic build of the actors playing the Winklevoss twins. They signed him up for a summer camp the next day, as mentioned on Team USA’s website.

His journey to Olympic champion began at the Tokyo Games in 2020, and now, with a gold medal in hand, Best’s dedication and perseverance have firmly placed him at the pinnacle of his sport.
