Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal expressed concern over reports of death threats against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s daughter, Seerat Kaur, in the United States. On Friday, Maliwal called on the Indian Embassy in Washington DC to ensure her safety, labelling the threats as “cowardice.”
Kaur, who resides in the US, received the alleged threats amid protests by pro-Khalistan supporters against the crackdown on Khalistan sympathiser and fugitive Amritpal Singh. The US government condemned recent violent incidents during protests at Indian diplomatic facilities, stating that violence or the threat of it is “never an acceptable form of protest” and of “grave concern.” The US Department of State affirmed its commitment to protecting diplomatic facilities and personnel, while also acknowledging protests’ First Amendment rights to free speech.
