Following a county judge’s ruling on Wednesday, Illinois became the third state in which former President Donald Trump was disqualified from the vote. He did, however, postponed the ruling and granted Trump time till Friday to file an appeal.

The ruling was based on the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution, which prohibits anybody from running for office again if they swore an oath to uphold the Constitution and then committed acts of rebellion, Cook County Circuit Judge Tracie Porter stated.

Earlier, the former US President had been declared “ineligible” for the national ballots by the Colorado Supreme Court and Shenna Bellows, the Democratic secretary of state of Maine. Even after these setback, Trump is leading in the Republican primary surveys.

His trial on allegations of plotting to rig the US Presidential election 2020 was postponed when the US Supreme Court decided on Wednesday to consider his argument that, as a former president, he is exempt from prosecution.

According to US media reports, the country’s highest court postponed Trump’s federal election meddling trial indefinitely and set arguments in the high-stakes case for the week of April 22.
