The United States commemorated the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist assault on Monday. Approximately 3,000 people died when hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Virginia, and a field close to Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

At a military facility in Anchorage, Alaska, US President Joe Biden will address the armed forces, first responders, and their families, according to the Voice of America. An unusual occurrence, the September 11 anniversary will be commemorated without the US President showing up at ceremonies at the Pentagon, New York, or Pennsylvania crash sites. During his journey back to the United States from a foreign trip that includes the G20 summit in India and meetings with leaders in Vietnam, Biden will stop in Alaska.

The deadliest terrorist attack to ever target the US occurred early on September 11, 2001. The terrorist attacks resulted in the deaths of about 3,000 individuals. The World Trade Center twin buildings in New York fell in under 102 minutes after being struck by hijacked aircraft from Al Qaeda.
