Beginning July 11, the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, will undertake a state-wide effort to clear pasture land from illegal encroachment.

According to an official statement, animals inflict more harm to standing crops when there is nothing nearby to eat, and pasture area is crucial for this purpose. “To free pasture land from illegal encroachments, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development is launching a campaign from July 11 to August 25”, the statement read.

As part of its continued efforts to protect the welfare of both animals and farmers, the Yogi government has established 6781 cow shelters in Uttar Pradesh, which have housed around 11,88,875 distressed cattle.

Furthermore, the statement stated that the government distributes monies each month to ensure that these cattle have enough straw and feed.

A campaign of artificial insemination is also underway throughout the state to improve species with the goal of attaining sustainable development. According to the statement, only female offspring will be born from cows that have undergone artificial insemination as part of this effort.

“The probability of this is more than 90 per cent, and the offspring will be of a better breed. Although this will take some time, the state’s entire dairy industry will be revitalized once unproductive animal issues have been permanently resolved”, it read.

The UP government is also planning to implement the Mukhyamantri Khet Suraksha Yojana (Solar Fencing) to protect crops from stray and wild animals. The goal, according to the statement, is to safeguard the standing crops in the field from animal attacks while causing no harm to the animals.
