The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu, Prof. Umesh Rai, held a comprehensive interaction with senior members of the media today, shedding light on the university’s ongoing initiatives, achievements, and future plans. Accompanied by key faculty members, including Prof. Meena Sharma, Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Prof. Rahul Gupta, Prof. Rajiv Rattan, Prof. Pankaj Srivastava, Prof. J. P. S. Joorel, Prof. Naresh Padha, and Prof. Satnam Kour Raina, the Vice-Chancellor underscored the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and holistic student success.

During the session, Prof. Rai emphasized the importance of fostering a collaborative learning environment and strengthening partnerships with industry stakeholders. Recognizing the invaluable support from Print and Electronic Media, he acknowledged the financial backing of Rs 5 crore from the UT Jammu & Kashmir Government for faculty capacity development programs. An additional Rs 5 crore has been sanctioned for the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Highlighting upcoming endeavors, Prof. Rai announced plans for substantial infrastructure development, including a prestigious innovation tower, extensive parking space, and a state-of-the-art main gate reflecting Dogra culture.

The University of Jammu has also achieved the distinction of being the first varsity in the UT to offer full-fledged Masters degrees in English and Commerce through online mode.

In a significant move towards women’s empowerment, the university is set to host a Women’s JK Science Congress in February. Prof. Rai shared insights into a forthcoming 3-day mega festival named “Goonj,” where universities from the UT J&K and affiliated colleges of JU will participate, showcasing best practices and cultural activities.

Further strengthening the bond between generations, Prof. Rai unveiled a program titled “Bajargon ke baat Yuvawo ke sath,” aiming to foster meaningful dialogues between youth and elders. The initiative involves elders sharing life experiences with youth, documented for future reference, and culminating in the creation of a documentary.

Prominent figures present during the interaction included Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Prof. Prakash Antahal, Prof. Alka Sharma, Prof. S. K. Pandita, Prof. Monika Sethi, Prof. Sarika Manhas, Dr. Garima Gupta, and Sh. Ranjeet Kalra, among others. The dynamic vision and innovative initiatives outlined by Prof. Umesh Rai reflect the University of Jammu’s commitment to holistic education and community engagement.
