Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday praised India’s economic growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the BRICS Summit in Kazan. He also expressed gratitude to Modi for his participation in the three-day summit.

Putin highlighted that while all countries discuss the importance of achieving high economic growth, India has been successfully accomplishing it for several years.

“All of us talk about the need to ensure high economic growth rates; you (Modi) manage to do this successfully,” he remarked.

Putin further emphasized that India’s achievement of 7.5% economic growth sets an example for other nations.

“We congratulate you on these results — 7.5% growth; this is an example for many of us,” he said, adding, “Thank you for your initiatives.”

BRICS, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has now expanded with the addition of five new members: Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

Putin’s comments came as a senior official from the International Monetary Fund noted that India continues to be the fastest-growing economy in the world, highlighting the country’s strong macroeconomic fundamentals.
