Xi Jinping Meets Morocco Crown Prince Boosts China’s Investments In EV

Chinese President Xi Jinping made a brief visit to Morocco on Thursday, following his participation in the G20 Summit in Brazil. According to state media from both countries, Xi was warmly welcomed in Casablanca by Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, along with Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch.

The visit highlighted the growing friendship and cooperation between China and Morocco, reflecting their strong bilateral relations. At the airport, Xi and the Crown Prince engaged in a cordial conversation, as reported by China’s state broadcaster CCTV and Morocco’s MAP news agency.

In recent years, China has significantly increased its investments in Morocco, particularly in the country’s infrastructure and rail sectors. Morocco’s strategic location, its free trade agreements with the European Union and the United States, and its established automotive industry make it an attractive destination for Chinese companies, particularly those in the electric vehicle (EV) sector.

In June, Chinese EV battery manufacturer Gotion High Tech chose Morocco to establish Africa’s first gigafactory, a major $1.3 billion investment aimed at boosting the production of electric vehicle batteries for the African market. This move further underscores China’s growing interest in Morocco as a key partner in both regional and global trade.
