US President Donald Trump has fired at least three top National Security Council (NSC) officials due to concerns about their loyalty, according to The New York Times. This came after a meeting with ultra-conservative activist Laura Loomer, who asserted the officials were not entirely devoted to Trump’s “Make America Great Again” agenda.

Loomer made the case for their removal to Trump in an Oval Office meeting Wednesday, as reported by the Associated Press. Those familiar with the situation said Vice President JD Vance, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, and Presidential Personnel Office Director Serio Gor were among those present.

Loomer, who supports 9/11 conspiracy theories, was also a major supporter of Trump’s 2024 campaign. In recent times, she has spoken out on social media questioning the reliability of some NSC members.

“It was a privilege to meet with President Trump and share with him my research results,” Loomer added on X. “I will keep doing all that I can to advance his agenda, and I will keep emphasizing the need for, and the necessity of STRONG VETTING, in order to protect the President of the United States of America, and our national security.”

NSC Stays Mum over Firings

Even as speculation mounted, National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes refused to comment on the meeting or the firings.

The firings of these officials take place as Trump’s National Security Adviser, Mike Waltz, is facing criticism for using the encrypted messaging app Signal to talk about sensitive military operations. Opponents say such a conversation shouldn’t have been conducted on an open platform.

Security Breach Claims Add to Controversy

The controversy was compounded by a report by The Atlantic. The editor-in-chief of the magazine, Jeffrey Goldberg, alleged he was mistakenly included in a group chat where senior US officials were coordinating the March 15 military attacks against Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Whereas Trump made public the strikes on March 15, Goldberg accused him of already knowing about the strikes because of his accidental joining of the chat. The others in the reported group were said to be US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Vice President JD Vance.

As concerns around national security procedures grow, Trump’s move to oust significant NSC personnel indicates his tough stance on loyalty in his government.
