JD Vance Eyes 2028 Presidential Run, Hints at Breaking From Trump – Future of Musk Also Revealed

US Vice President JD Vance revealed on Thursday that he is considering a 2028 presidential bid, following discussions with Donald Trump. While speaking on Fox & Friends, Vance stated that he would make a joint decision with Trump when the time comes.

“But the way that I think about it is, if we do a good job, the politics take care of themselves,” he said, emphasizing that his current priority is governance rather than election plans. He added that there is a lot of work to do, and he has not yet thought about what will happen in 3.5 years.

Meanwhile, Trump, 78, recently suggested the possibility of a third term, despite constitutional limitations. In an NBC News interview, he floated an idea where Vance could run for president and later appoint him as vice president after winning.

However, the US Constitution’s 22nd Amendment states, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” Additionally, the 12th Amendment clarifies that no one “constitutionally ineligible” for the presidency can serve as vice president.

Vance Confirms Musk’s Continued Role Post-DOGE Exit

Addressing Elon Musk’s resignation from his position as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Vance assured that the billionaire entrepreneur would remain involved with the Trump administration.

“Of course, he’s going to continue to be an adviser,” Vance stated, dismissing media reports that suggested a fallout between Musk and Trump. He highlighted Musk’s contributions, explaining that he was brought in to streamline the government and reduce bureaucracy.

Musk had agreed to serve in the administration for only six months, and as per federal guidelines, he was only allowed to hold his position as a special government employee for 130 days. His departure is expected at the end of next month.

Rejecting “Fake News” on Musk’s Exit

Left-leaning media outlets, including Politico, interpreted Musk’s resignation as a sign of tension between him and Trump. However, Vance dismissed these claims, calling them “fake news.”

“The work of DOGE is not even close to done. The work of Elon is not even close to done. DOGE has got a lot of work to do … that work is going to continue after Elon leaves,” he asserted.

Despite Musk’s exit, Vance assured that the department would continue its mission of making government operations more efficient and cost-effective.
