Bangladeshi Hindu religious leader Krishna Das Prabhu was detained at Dhaka Airport on Monday, according to reports. It is claimed that he was prevented from leaving the country and taken to an undisclosed location by authorities. However, no official statement has been released by the Bangladesh government.

Prabhu, also known as Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, is a member of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). His detention occurred under the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.

Protests erupted in response to the incident, with videos circulating on social media showing Hindu leaders and large crowds demonstrating against the arrest. These protests were captured by various media outlets.

Kanchan Gupta, senior advisor to India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, posted on X, claiming that Prabhu was arrested by the police under the Yunus regime. Gupta added that Prabhu, who led a large rally demanding protection for Hindus, was charged with sedition. He suggested that Prabhu might have been taken to the Detective Branch for further questioning.

Suvendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition in Bengal, also took to X to urge India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to take swift action. He expressed concern over Prabhu’s abduction by the Detective Branch at Dhaka Airport, emphasizing that the Hindu leader was fighting for the protection and dignity of Hindus in Bangladesh. Adhikari voiced fears that the Yunus regime could go to extreme lengths, even eliminating perceived threats. He urged Jaishankar to address the issue urgently, noting that a case of treason had been filed against Prabhu.
