Prince William’s Nod To Harry Not A Peace Gesture, Expert Claims

In a surprising mention of Prince Harry, Prince William referenced their shared childhood experience visiting shelters, sparking speculation of reconciliation. However, royal expert Phil Dampier sees this as a "sad indication" of their ongoing rift, not an olive branch.

In the new ITV documentary Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, Prince William made a rare mention of his brother, Prince Harry, as he reflected on their shared childhood experiences with their mother, Princess Diana. The Prince of Wales spoke passionately about his commitment to addressing homelessness, a cause that Diana introduced him to alongside Harry.

“Not an Olive Branch,” Claims Royal Commentator

While some saw William’s reference to Harry as an attempt to mend fences, royal commentator Phil Dampier dismissed this notion, calling it a “sad indication” of their fractured bond. “It’s been seen by some as an olive branch to Harry because he’s mentioned him for the first time in six years,” Dampier stated. “I don’t see it that way myself. The rift between them is still as wide as ever, unfortunately.”

A Reflection on Lost Potential

Dampier further reflected on what could have been a joint effort by the brothers in addressing homelessness, a cause they were exposed to together as children. “It’s just left William on his own, and Harry’s not joining in,” he said, adding that it’s unfortunate the brothers are no longer collaborating on something they both experienced at a young age.

Diana’s Influence: The Brothers’ First Visit to a Shelter

Prince William reminisced about his first visit to a homeless shelter in December 1993, when Princess Diana took both him and Harry to The Passage, a charity focused on aiding newly homeless individuals. “I must have been about 11, maybe 10,” he recalled. “I remember thinking that everyone without a home must be really sad. But it was incredible how happy an environment it was.”

Where to Watch Prince William: We Can End Homelessness

The documentary will premiere in the UK on Wednesday, October 30, and Thursday, October 31. It will also be available for international viewers on Disney+ starting Friday, November 1.
