Pakistan Hikes Petrol, Diesel And LPG Prices As Inflation Soars

The Pakistani government announced another hike in petrol and diesel prices on Saturday, further burdening citizens already grappling with soaring inflation, according to ARY News.

Petrol prices rose by PKR 3.72 per litre, bringing the new rate to PKR 252.10 per litre, as per an official notification. Similarly, the cost of high-speed diesel increased by PKR 3.29 per litre, reaching PKR 258.43 per litre. The price surge is attributed to a high premium on petroleum products in the global market and increasing import costs, ARY News reported, citing sources.

This follows a previous adjustment on October 31, when the government raised petrol prices by PKR 1.35, setting it at PKR 248.38 per litre, and increased high-speed diesel by PKR 3.85 to PKR 255.14 per litre.

In addition to fuel costs, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) announced a rise in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices on November 30. The new LPG price is set at PKR 254.30 per kilogram for December, up from PKR 240.03 in November. Consequently, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder has risen to PKR 3,079.79, compared to PKR 2,999.47 in the previous month.

OGRA confirmed the updated prices in a notification, effective December 1, attributing the hike to the appreciation of the US dollar. These increases are expected to intensify financial pressures on consumers already facing escalating inflation and fuel costs.
