India, UAE Discuss Middle East-Europe Corridor And Regional Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEEC) as a “historic initiative” during his meeting with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The talks, held in New Delhi on Thursday, focused on fostering regional connectivity, strengthening bilateral relations, and achieving long-term stability in the region.

Historic Corridor to Enhance Connectivity

PM Modi highlighted the significance of IMEEC, which aims to boost connectivity and prosperity between India, the Middle East, and Europe. The Prime Minister reiterated India’s commitment to implementing the corridor as a key initiative for regional development.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed shared the UAE’s vision for the project and its potential impact on regional integration, expressing the nation’s willingness to collaborate closely with India on its execution.

Strengthening Strategic Partnership

The two leaders discussed enhancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UAE. Key areas of focus included:

  1. Technology collaboration: Exploring innovation and digital transformation.
  2. Energy cooperation: Strengthening ties in renewable and traditional energy sectors.
  3. People-to-people ties: Supporting the large Indian community in the UAE and fostering cultural exchanges.

PM Modi conveyed his appreciation for the UAE’s efforts to ensure the welfare of the Indian diaspora, a vibrant and significant contributor to UAE’s economy and culture.

India’s Vision for Regional Peace and Stability

The Prime Minister reaffirmed India’s commitment to peace and security in West Asia, a region pivotal to global stability. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed presented the UAE’s perspective on the prevailing situation in West Asia, aligning with India’s stance on supporting long-term stability and cooperation.

High-Level Exchanges and Meetings

PM Modi expressed satisfaction with frequent high-level interactions, referencing the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s visit to India in September 2024. These exchanges mark a generational continuity in the bilateral relationship.

The UAE Deputy PM was in New Delhi to attend the 4th Strategic Dialogue and the 15th India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting, further solidifying the strategic partnership.

Commitment to Regional Prosperity

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi emphasized the commitment of both nations towards regional peace and prosperity.
“Happy to receive Deputy PM and Foreign Minister of the UAE, HH AB Zayed. India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is poised to achieve unprecedented heights. We are committed to working towards peace, stability, and security in West Asia and the wider region,” PM Modi wrote.
