The governments of Nepal and China launched the “Phewa Dialogue” series on Thursday, marking a collaborative effort to develop regional prosperity and peace policies.
The two-day initiative, held in Pokhara, takes its name from the renowned Phewa Lake. Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari inaugurated the dialogue.
The event is being hosted by Sichuan University’s China Center for South Asian Studies and Tribhuvan University’s Department of International Relations and Diplomacy.

According to the circulated documents, the Phewa Dialogue will address issues such as South Asia’s global industrial shift and its needs. “Beautiful Pokhara, here we come. China has Boao Asia Forum, Swiss has World Economic Forum, Singapore has Shangri La Dialogue. Tomorrow, for the first time in history, Nepal will officially have your own Phewa Dialogue, a world-class think tank forum, dedicated to South Asia Regional Economic Integration. Many thanks to joint efforts by TU and Sichuan University,” wrote Chen Song, China’s ambassador to Nepal, on social media X.
Four years ago, the K P Sharma Oli government had planned to start the Sagarmatha dialogue series, modeled after the Raisina Dialogue, but the initiative was delayed due to the COVID pandemic.
