Senior citizens and new voters registration at registration camp, Zirakpur

Following the instructions of the Election Commission of India, to increase the polling percentage in the areas with a low turnout of voters in the previous elections of District Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali), special attention is being paid to increasing the voter turnout in these polling booths during upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, said Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer, Aashika Jain.

Continuous sweep activities are being carried out at the booth level by the District SVEEP (Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation) Team with the support of various educational institutions and NGOs so that the voter turnout can be increased to achieve the target of 80 per cent in the Lok Sabha elections-2024.

Today, a voter registration and awareness camp was organized at ‘Metro Trade Center, VIP Road, Zirakpur’ by District SVEEP Nodal Officer Prof. Gurbakshish Singh Antal and Election Tehsildar Sanjay Kumar with the support of Social Life Help and Care Foundation. During the camp, District SVEEP Nodal Officer Prof. Gurbakshish Singh Antal informed about various mobile apps related to elections (Voter Helpline app, Saksham app for the Pwd Voters and cVigil app for proactive participation of voters to report Model Code of Conduct violation). He said that 12 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in the district have been identified that are helping the SVEEP team in sensitizing senior citizens, migrant workers and Pwd voters to vote.

Dr Karan Kamra, Chairman, of Social Life and Help Care Foundation said that 107 new votes/voter address change forms were received during today’s camp. Dr Rashi Iyer said that during this camp, eligible voters from Jaipuria Sunrise Green Towers, Maya Garden and VIP Road residential areas participated, whose new votes as well as senior citizens’ votes were transferred by submitting Form No. 8. The residents of the area expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner for this initiative and assured that not only the vote of all the voters of these areas will be ensured to cast but also support will be given to the volunteer election staff in .

Coffee mugs, caps and T-shirts were also distributed by the SVEEP team from the District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner office to the eligible voters who were registered as voters during this camp. During today’s camp, Social Life Help Care Foundation volunteers Vishwajit Parida, Namita, Anushka, Gagandeep Kwatra, Babita and Kuldeep played an active role and encouraged the voters to vote by visiting door-to-door.
