DELVE INTO CHRISTMAS SPIRIT WITH JONITA GANDHI ‘THIS CHRISTMAS’

MUMBAI: YouTube Sensation Jonita Gandhi’s festive song ‘This Christmas’ has released. Jonita has given a great hits to the audience including ‘Bhankas’ (Baaghi 3), ‘The Breakup Song’ (Ae Dil Hai Mushkil), ‘Sau Tarah’ (Dishoom). Jonita Gandhi exclusively spoke to The Daily Guardian and told us about the new songs, her experience in Bollywood and upcoming projects.

How excited are you for your song ‘This Christmas’? Can you share more details about the song?

I’m so excited to share ‘This Christmas’ and I hope everyone really feels the Christmas spirit when they hear it. I love singing RnB and was so excited about taking this incredible song and making it our own by recreating it with David Joseph and Alok Merwin. We had so much fun shooting the video together and I’m really glad we were able to!

How has the journey been in Bollywood?

Over the last seven years since my debut Bollywood song, I’ve learned so much. Not just as a singer and performer, but also about myself, my connection to music, and the profession I’ve chosen. I’m so grateful for the opportunities I’ve had so far to work with tremendously talented and insightful mentors and co-artists and I genuinely feel like I’ve been able to take away something wonderful from each new interaction.

How different is ‘This Christmas’ from other Bollywood songs?

‘This Christmas’ is a song by RnB/Soul artist Donny Hathaway, released back in the 1970s. The process of creating a cover or an independent single is quite different than Bollywood songs because there are less defined parameters to conform to, which leaves a lot of room for us to be experimental.

Who has been your inspiration when it comes to singing?

There are too many to name! I hear new artists all the time and find myself continuing to get inspired by a variety of influences.

Any Upcoming projects?

I have a few Independent releases coming up soon, and a couple covers as well on the way.

You have a song coming up with Arjun, ‘Kaun Tujhe’, how was the experience working with him and any tips he gave you?

Working with Arjun on this collaboration was a breeze even though the entire thing was done remotely. When he first sent me the track I was excited about fusing English and Hindi for this song. Although I don’t normally write new sections, Arjun was really encouraging and made the process so easy.
