Administration continues voter awareness drives at Holi celebrations

Administration continues voter awareness drives at Holi celebrations

Buoyed by the success of Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities held at the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the inaugural ceremony of Maharaja Yadvindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur (New Chandigarh), the district administration today reached out to the Holi Celebrations organized at various places in the district to make the people aware of the upcoming festival of democracy on June 01, 2024.

Divulging details, the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer, Mrs. Aashika Jain, said that the voter awareness activities done during the IPL match encouraged the administration to go to Holi Celebrations for sensitizing the people about the festivity of democracy too. A District SVEEP team led by District SVEEP Nodal Officer, Professor Gurbakshish Singh Antaal, Election Tehsildar Sanjay Kumar, and Kanungo Surinder Kumar approached the main events held in the district and showed their presence by spreading the message of ‘iVote for Sure’ and ‘IssVar70Paar’ and ‘NoVoterToBeLeftBehind’ by joining the Holi bash. She further said that the Vibrant Colors of Holi were mixed with the virtual colors of democracy to make the people feel the high and pure spirit of democracy.

She said that video messages were also played on the big screens installed there to propagate the message of the Election Commission of India to vote for sure. Even the participants danced to the tunes of “Main Bharat Hu”, a theme song of the Election Commission of India. Messages of state Icons of CEO Punjab, Shubhman Gill, and Tarsem Jassar were also played on screens. They were also apprised of the mobile apps developed by ECI to reach out to the Election Commission like the Voter Helpline, Sakham App cVigil, and the toll-free number 1950.

Masks of Election Mascot Shera 2.0, mugs with the message ‘iVote for Sure’, and stickers for vehicles were also distributed to the people present there. The Deputy Commissioner said that the Excise Department officials supported the SVEEP team to convey the message of democracy in various resorts, including HopUp Theme Park Zirakpur, Chimney Heights Zirakpur, Forest Hill Resort Karoran, Mask Club Mohali, Aura Vaseela Resorts Nadiali, Funcity Derabassi, Velvet Green Banquets Zirakpur.

She exhorted the people of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar that if anyone still wants to become a voter, who will attain the age of 18 on April 1, 2024, can register himself/herself as a voter by the 5th of May, 2024.
