Chaos erupted on National Highway 95 in Moga today as the Municipal Corporation took action against an illicit meat and fish market established openly on GT Road. Despite several notices, the unauthorized market continued its operations.
Upon witnessing the municipal authorities in action, the market vendors attempted to resist by pouring oil on themselves and attempting to set themselves on fire. The police intervened and apprehended the individuals involved in the act. The entire area has now been transformed into a police camp.
The Moga-Ferozepur National Highway 95 witnessed significant disruption when the Municipal Corporation, led by the yellow claw of the corporation, cracked down on the unauthorized meat and fish market situated openly on GT Road. This illicit market had caused significant traffic problems for those traveling on the road. As the municipal corporation enforced its authority, a shopkeeper, opposing the action, tried to set himself on fire by pouring oil on himself. The police promptly intervened, preventing any harm.
Assistant Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, Gurpreet Singh, stated, “The unauthorized market was causing inconvenience to the public and disrupting traffic. The Municipal Corporation is committed to maintaining the sanctity of public spaces.”
Traffic Police Officer Gurubhej Singh added, “Efforts are being made to ensure smooth traffic flow, and unauthorized markets that contribute to congestion will not be tolerated.”
The shopkeeper who attempted self-immolation was stopped by the police, and he declared, “I would rather die than face the consequences.” The market area was under police surveillance until the situation was brought under control.
Gurpreet Singh, said, “The Municipal Corporation is determined to take necessary actions against unauthorized markets affecting public spaces and traffic flow.”Traffic Police Officer Gurubhej Singh emphasized, “Efforts are being made to streamline traffic, and strict action will be taken against those causing disruptions.”The shopkeeper who attempted self-immolation declared his extreme opposition to the municipal corporation’s action.
