Congress’ Haryana unit president, Udai Bhan, travelled to Gharaunda in the Karnal district on Sunday to attend a programme organised in the city. While speaking to reporters, the Congress leader claimed that the Centre’s “One Nation, One Election” was an election slogan for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“Neither does the Election Commission have so many EVMs, nor are simultaneous polls possible in the country,” Udai Bhan stated. Udai Bhan was attending a programme organised at the Gharaunda community hall late on Sunday evening.
He also gave several blunt answers when questioned, especially on the matter of the distribution of Assembly tickets. Udai Bhan very firmly said that “only strong candidates with a history of winning” would get tickets from the party and that observers have been appointed.
“A quota system used to work earlier, but not this time, because the party will conduct the survey and the one whose position is stronger in the survey will get the green signal from the party.” On the other hand, on the question related to Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Udai Bhan charged that the INLD “does not exist” in any significant capacity. He even went on to say that INLD is not even a part of the I.N.D.I.A bloc.
At the same time, he also launched an attack on the BJP-led central and state governments on the issue of price rise and inflation. He said that by giving subsidies on LPG, the government filled crores of rupees in the treasury, and has done so by imposing a heavy tax on diesel and petrol. “It has accomplished its work of looting the public.” He said that after the Congress was elected to power, such moves would be abolished and that his party would recommence its scheme for free plots.
