Taking serious note of the accidental death of a toddler who drowned in an underground water tank at an under-construction house in Sector 78, Mohali, the Deputy Commissioner has instructed the SDM Mohali to investigate the matter.
Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain said that it was a tragic incident in which a laborer lost his two-year-old son. Upon receiving information about the incident, SDM Chandrajyoti Singh visited the site with the District Child Protection Officer for further investigation.
She mentioned that relief for the victim’s family would be provided through the Red Cross and the CM Relief Fund. She urged all owners/contractors of houses under construction in the district to ensure precautionary measures at construction sites, such as covering such tanks and instructing laborers to keep their children away from potential danger points, which could include many others. In the wake of the incident, she emphasized that panchayats and tubewell owners are once again instructed to cover all abandoned borewells in their respective areas
